The gift of a chicken, goat, sheep or cow to help families in Uganda become self-sufficient is the latest initiative from ‘The Mustard Seed Project’.
This is the Ruddington fundraising group set up by James Peacock Infants School teachers Sally Squires and Jayne Henson inspired by their visit to Uganda in the Summer of 2016 which “taught us that a tiny seed can produce amazing results”. For a rather different and special Christmas present the village-based charity is now offering people the chance to donate anything between £5 and £100 to help Ugandan families living on the swamp island of Tisai, in Teso.
The project’s Charlene Robinson explains: “We will buy and deliver the livestock to a family in need who can then use the manure the animal produces to fertilise crops which can be eaten. Our aim is to promote sustainable aid and enable families to support themselves. Livestock can be bought as a Christmas gift and we will send you a certificate and card to present to the recipient, or you can gift directly to a family in Uganda. Chickens are £5, sheep and goats £25, and a cow is £100.”
You’re asked to email the project as soon as possible via info@mustardseeduganda.com if you’d like to place an order in time for Christmas.
